In Patch 2.4, Blizzard took out combat log messages for Void Reaver's Arcane Bolts. They did this to avoid a potential bug. Since then, a number of raids have complained that Void Reaver is un-doable. Patch 2.4.2 was supposed to re-add combat log messages for Void Reaver's Arcane Bolts. Apparently, it's not doing that and raids are still QQing. But lemme just say, I come from a casual raid and Void Reaver is not that hard!
Our raid downed Void Reaver just once right before Patch 2.4 was released. The patch came and it only took us two attempts to relearn the fight and deal with not having our names called out over Vent. Now we down him regularly.
This is what happens when people rely too much on mods for boss encounters. When the mod breaks, people suddenly have no idea what to do. We never had that problem. We never learned to rely on it.
The same thing happened when Blizzard broke Decursive. I am proud to say I never once touched Decursive. I never even installed it. When Blizzard broke Decursive, I watched my teammates stumble with decursing because they had no idea how to do it manually. They were used to just mashing a button. In the meantime, I merrily did what I always did: I clicked down a list of names and hit W.
The lesson for today: tilt your camera up, dodge bolts, collect loot. The worse you'll have to deal with is dodging your teammates' Arcane Bolts. (I still die to these sometimes.)
Void Reaver is fine. l2play.
