White-throated sparrows
The sparrows are coming into their mating colors. I now recognize that we have white-throated sparrows along with the golden-crowned and white crowned sparrows.
Lots of green-violet swallows were checking out the nest boxes yesterday. I also observed a chickadee bringing moss into our nest box on a utility pole. The swallows seemed very interested in the same box. I opened up some nest boxes and found that one of them has a chickadee nest made mostly of sheds of redwood bark and lined with raccoon hairs.
