Okay, so
1) yes, I'm going to Arisia.
2) I was stupid, and didn't have arisia friended, so I didn't know that they were pretty much sold out of the 650 rooms in Arisia's room block some time ago. And also
3) I didn't know that there was a waiting list until soong posted that he'd gotten off of it and into the Westin.

I'm traveling and staying with badmagic, who ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, the overflow hotel is about the closest decent and not terribly expensive hotel to the convention hotel. (The new site is the new convention center hotel, and there are *supposed* to be more hotels built in the area, but with the economy as it is, everyone's sitting on their projects, and the area around the convention center is pretty empty.)

Arisia is going to be HUGE this year and no one was expecting the convention hotel to sell out so quickly.

I don't know about the shuttle issue, and haven't asked, but I did see some email about "a shuttle" pass through Ben's inbox.

There are other hotels a block away, but they didn't sign a contract or something. There's public transit, but it looks like it involves having to change T lines*. And it's January in Bostonish.

The official line is that there aren't going to be many people staying at the overflow hotel, so offering a shuttle is cost prohibitive, and hey, the overflow hotel is cheaper, so you can afford cabfare, especially if you share..

*The closest subway station to the Doubletree appears to be Tufts Medical Center. From here, take an Oak Grove train to Downtown Crossing. Transfer to an Ashmont or Braintree train on the Red Line, and go to South Station. Go to the Silver Line area; the Silver Line is a bus service, but you board without needing an additional ticket or transfer. Take the SL1 or SL2 to World Trade Center. From there, come out the front and cross the bridge, and the hotel will be ahead of you. The walk is about a quarter of a mile ( ... )

I've got an empty double double at the Westin. Would you care to take it off my hands?

I just got email from the Westin that we came off the waiting list and have a room, but per http://2011.arisia.org/node/164 yesterday, there are 4 requests yet filled for double doubles.

I have one friend who didn't get into the Westin and I don't know if he's on the waiting list; I'll contact him and reply again within an hour?

Oh crap I'm sorry I got sidetracked. Turns out my friend is doing the Marriott loyalty thing, and is going to stay in the other hotels.

Moria923 mentioned having a King room and looking for roommates. She likely would have an easier time of that with a doubledouble, dunno.

But yeah, there're, last I heard, four outstanding requests for doubledoubles, and then there's also arisia.

And thanks!
