A Legend of Zelda: Four Swords ~ White Day fic
------------------
Blue woke up to the sound of loud commotion. He grumbled and flipped over to his side, pulling his covers over his head in attempts to get a few extra seconds of rest. He grumbled again when the thickness of his covers did not drown out the sound. Chucking the blankets off to the side, he dressed in his usual attire of blue tunic and decided he was going to investigate the noise. Half a second out of the room, he turned around back in and picked up the discarded covers, folding them and placing them neatly at the end of his bed. Satisfied with the clean up, he made his way down the castle stairs to the source of trouble.
He found a large crowd of the castle's chefs and cooks piled outside the kitchen area. There was a strong scent of sweetness in the air that filled the vicinity of the kitchen.
"What's going on?" Blue asked a chef that stood close by.
"Good morning Master Blue. Do you not remember what day is?"
He shook his head. "What's so special about today?"
The chef pointed at a calendar hanging behind her. "It's White Day today, and Master Red is currently borrowing out kitchen to make some last minute chocolates."
Blue raised his eyebrow at the thought of giving chocolates.
After a while, the crowd slowly disappeared one by one into the kitchen. Red emerged with a large sack slung over is shoulder.
"And this one is for you! Thank you for letting me borrow the kitchen!" The red Link placed a small baggie of chocolates into the hands of every chef he passed until every cook each had one and returned to their places in the kitchen.
"Good morning Blue! Happy White Day!" He produced a large red heart from his bag. "This is yours."
Blue eyed the heart shape languidly. He folded his arms over his chest. "Do you really expect me to take that?"
Red nodded.
"Guys don't eat chocolate. And I hate sweets."
"You don't have to eat it, just take it." Red continued to thrust it towards him.
"I don't want it."
Red's smile slightly faltered. "Well, I'll leave it here if you decide to take it." He placed it on the counter located next to him. "I have to give out these chocolates, I'll see you later Blue!" He trotted though the doorway.
As soon as he was out of sight, Blue went over and took a hold of the confection.
"Maybe I can give this to Zelda or something." He grinned at the idea, then made his way to the library where the princess often visited.
------------------
"Gah! Where is she?!"
Blue stomped out to the garden in Hyrule Castle after wasting half the day searching the building. He tossed the chocolate heart on the wooden table and slumped down on the bench.
"I've searched everywhere! Where else can she be?!"
"Hey Blue!"
Looking up, he saw the two other Links approach him.
"Where were you off to in such a hurry? I saw you running around the castle like you were running a marathon." Green broke off a piece of chocolate he held in his hand and laid it gently in his mouth.
"I was looking for Princess Zelda, I was gonna give her some chocolate."
Vio snorted. "Blue, we all know that you don't make chocolate, never mind give it."
"Shut up, I know. Red made it, and I didn't want it, but I don't want to waste it either, so I'm giving it to Zelda." He grabbed the chocoheart from its resting place.
"Woah! Red made that for you?!" Green pointed at the heart.
"Yeah, well, Red is the only guy that would make heart shapes..."
"Yeah but we didn't get one that big. Yours is twice the size of the ones he gave us." Green said, pointing to he chocolate he was currently consuming.
Blue noted that he was right, Red had given him a heart in a much bigger size, despite the fact that he did not eat sweets. "Hn, maybe he's spiting me or something."
"Red does not spite people Blue." Vio pointed out.
"Well, I bet he gave Princess Zelda an even bigger one."
"I bet not."
The three heroes all turned their attention towards the voice, which had belonged to the queen of Hyrule, Princess Zelda. She held in her hand a heart shaped piece of chocolate covered in red wrappings, similar to the one that Green had.
"Red gave me this one. He's so sweet." She smiled warmly.
"Tch, it's just chocolate."
Her smiled turned into a frown. "Blue, it's not just chocolate. On Valentines or White Day, people give out chocolate as a symbol that they care about others. They are homemade because it is made from the heart with plenty of effort and love put into it. Blue... it may be a piece of candy to you, but for Red, it means so much more."
The blue hero thought hard on Zelda's words. The part with the "L" word echoed in his mind.
'If Red had made it himself... and with the size of my chocolate... Does extra effort mean extra love?'
He blinked. Red had said that he loved them (the wielders of the Four Swords) all. Shouldn't they have all gotten the same things? Why was it that he got the special one?
'Unless... Did Red...?'
Blue shot up from his seat, chocoheart still in hand. If what he thought was true, then he had just made a huge mistake.
"Sorry guys, I gotta go!"
Zelda, Green and Vio watched him zoom out of the garden.
"You think he figured it out?" Zelda asked, taking a seat where Blue had previously sat.
"Yeah. He's not the smartest person in Hyrule, but he isn't stupid." Vio leaned against a tree, a knowing smirk was placed on his lips.
"So boys." The princess held out her hand. "Where's my chocolate?"
Vio and Green glanced nervously at one another, as Zelda waited for a response.
------------------
"Here you go Hercule! Chocolate for you!"
Blue had found Red kneeling beside a tabby cat, pouring chocolate milk into a dish. The cat mewed and lapped the milk in content.
"Red."
The boy looked up at the call of his name." Hiya Blue! What's up?" He got up from his kneel to speak properly with the other.
Blue took one of Red's hand and deposited the chocoheart into his palm. The red Link recognized it as the one he had given to Blue earlier that morning. He also remembered urging him to keep it.
'But if he went through all the trouble to return it...'
The smile on Red's face slowly vanished.
"Blue, I told you that it is yours now. You're supposed to keep it..."
"I know."
The firmness in his voice shattered something in the little red hero's heart.
"So... you really can't accept it?" His eyes began to tremble.
"...Actually... ...I accept it."
Red blinked. "W-what?"
"I accept your heart."
"B-but... if you..."
Red was startled to see Blue blush and stutter. Blue never stuttered and blushing was extremely rare in the presence of Red.
"Um... w-well... You know I don't make chocolate... And... um... since the chocolate you gave me was meant to be mine, then I can do whatever I want with it...S-so...I'm giving it... to... you..." Blue finished with his eyes glued to the sky.
Red was speechless. He had thought Blue was going to tell him he was stupid for making chocolates and to yell at him for even giving him one. But now... He swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat and tried hard to blink back his tears. He heart swelled and the smile found its place back on his face.
The bashfulness in Blue was knocked out of him as Red threw himself on to Blue. The initial shock faded and he allowed for the other boy to embrace him.
"... Thank you Blue..." Red whispered, the tears he had tried to stifle before had been let loose. He sniffled quietly on Blue's shoulder.
Blue pulled him closer. 'Just for you Red, just for you.'
------------------
"Well, I'm glad that's resolved." Green ducked back into the obscurity of the castle gate.
"Too sweet if you asked me." Shadow stated bluntly.
"Well, nobody asked you."
"You wanna start something?"
Vio shushed the two as he leaned over for a better glimpse of the pair.
"So, Vio." Shadow poked the purple Link on the back. "Did you get me any chocolate?"
"...Um..."
