For Duke's Sake

Nov 02, 2006 15:12

Since Duke is apparently the only friend of mine that ever checks livejournal anymore, this is an update for him.  And for no reason at all, I have planted as many links as possible to this post.

What's new with me? I am doing great.  Things are busy and good with the youth ministry.  This weekend Becci and I are going to Indy with seven 4th/5th graders for SuperStart.  While we're there, we'll visit the Children's Museum.  In two weeks we will be taking fourteen high schoolers to Indy for the Indiana Christian Youth Convention/National Missionary Convention.  I am looking forward to that trip, it should be cool.  Also this month is Bring Your Own Bible Month at youth group.  BYOB.  ha ha.  We're going to have fun with that.

Married life is going good.  I realized last night what a stereo-typical minister and wife we are, sort of.  I was in my office working on mailings for the forementioned trips while Becci was in our church sanctuary playing hymns on the piano.  It's a quaint picture, and I suppose to some extent we fit that picture.  Whatever.  We got a membership last week to the YMCA.  We used it twice.  I'm sure we'll make it back someday.  Christmas is approaching.  I don't think Becci is going to let me put lights up before Thanksgiving this year.  But as soon as we get back from our family trips that weekend, they're going up.  Or maybe I'll put them up early and just not turn them on until after Thanksgiving.  That's a good idea.  That's what I'll do.  And she can't say no, 'cause she was asking to watch Polar Express just yesterday.  HA!  Ofcourse I will go all-out.  But the question is whether to do it Clark Griswold Style or just make sure every window, door, roofline, bush and tree are outlined in lights - like this.  Do you think I should do the "candle-in-the-window" thing?  That might be tacky.  No offense to those who might choose that route.  I don't think I will attempt anything of a Christmas village or nativity on my lawn.  But I'm open to suggestions.  Becci is excited that we're getting a real tree, instead of a fake.  And we have a nice big window to put it in front of.  So that's cool.  I'll just have to hold fast to my rule of no blue lights.  Then it will be a merry Christmas.

Happy November 2nd!
