Well this week was fair week in Auburn. They're county fair is one of the few street fairs. Basically they shut down 10 square blocks for seven days and put up the carnival rides and craft tents and greasy food stands and cheap games right on the street. It was pretty cool. Our church had a booth in the "Industrial Tent". I spent some time there greeting people with free suckers and flyers of upcoming events. Our youth band played in the county talent show on Friday. They played well, but didn't win anything. No sound check = tough luck for the only band in the competition. We were competing against karate acts and singing/dancing acts. Other exciting news about the fair - lightning struck the industrial tent and blew up a gas leak. Along with that and the fact that I've heard more sirens this week than any other since we've lived here makes me think that a street fair is not the safest idea for a small town. I did watch a couple cell phones drop from a carnival ride, though. That was funny.
Yesterday we hosted a magic act after church service. He was pretty good. He did Houdini's famous trunk escape act. Afterward I looked the trunk over and didn't see any trap doors or anything. In fact, he loaded all of his stuff into it and hauled it out of the church afterward. The rest of his tricks were pretty cool as well. He said he's working on a new show that he needs a test audience for, and since his kids are in my youth group, he wants to test it out on us when he's done with it. That was pretty cool.
Other than that, Becci's sick right now, so I'll be sick in a couple days. And we've been playing in a volleyball league at the YMCA. It's a lot different than other sports. I'm not sure I really like it. But it's fun enough. The thing I don't like is that we only play three games and it goes so fast that I don't really feel like I worked out at all. It's not really a cardiovascular sport. But one of the guys we play with asked me last week if I would like to play basketball on Saturday mornings. That starts in a couple of weeks and I know that'd be fun.
That's it.
