Off topic: Loving the Kaoru icon ;) Those cheekbones are really something.

On topic: After reading both drabbles, I almost begin to wonder exactly why I like Raito so much. (It definitely isn't because of his 'stellar personality'.) But I think that you hit directly on what it is which makes him a fascinating fellow: his descent from bored!genius!student to genius!manipulative!murderer. What makes that though somewhat chilling, if you will, is the fact that he can't rightfully be called 'crazy'...at least I don't think so, even if his ideals are rather warped. But he knows exactly what he is doing; he's manipulating everything and everyone; and he's got the brainpower to do it. The way you wrote him, he sounds very much in control of his actions and thoughts, and as cunning as ever.

And Misa. I like the fact that she is fully aware of Light's general disregard for her feelings, and that he shall never return anything remotely similar. The thing about Death Note is that there isn't really room for 'actual' romance, especially with Raito. Fluff is nonexistent. Just as it is here, and I think that this is about as close to romance as it gets.

What is interesting to me is that Misa knows that the kisses don't mean anything to Raito emotionally, BUT in the sense of 'alliance' they do actually mean something. Because if he kisses her, she knows that she is still useful for something; and I think that that -- to Misa -- is worth the reality that she will never be 'loved' back.

I do apologize for talking so much, but I just think that the concept of the kisses -- especially from Misa's eyes -- is interesting. Because, seriously, that "relationship" is messed up. (To say the least.)
