[Accidental Video]

[In the morning, Adell's journal clicks to life without him noticing.  The scene viewers are treated to is the inside of Adell's room, which is... currently a little Spartan in decoration.  There's not much on the walls, except a picture or two of people he once knew from Luceti.  Otherwise, there's a bookcase in the room that is ( Read more... )

[Terra enters the battle dome at some point, in her attempt to get to know the layout of the town better. She glances around curiously, eventually making her way to the viewing area.]

[When she looks into the view screen, she'll get a glimpse of Adell in his simulation.

Currently, Adell's in an opulent palace, but not like one that looks like it should be from the Netherworld. No, it looks more like a normal palace. But inside, Adell is engaged in combat with a few enemies... combat humanoid robots in black dress suits, taking aim and firing at him with handguns. He's up on the second floor, while his enemies are down below. He crouches down behind the banister, the pistol shots splintering it as he runs for the stairs.]

[Terra pauses to watch intently. The robots' weapons aren't anything she's familiar with, for a change, and the setting itself seems rather odd for a battle. Then again, he had spoken of different worlds and such. Perhaps this was what counted as normal, for him.

Uncertain if she was that interested in joining the battle herself -she had dealt with battle after battle after battle just before arriving- she nonetheless decides to observe him and his fighting style. Perhaps it would provoke buried memories.]

[Eventually, a couple of the androids are forced to reload their weapons, and that's when Adell makes his move. A blast of energy shoots from his hand and into the group, exploding and scattering them around.

And that's when Adell shows off a bit. He jumps on the railing heading down the stairs and slides down it on his feet, leaping off at the end to land in the mess of robots he made.

...As they stand up, Adell simply beats them back down with his fists.]

[Of course, Terra's almost immediately reminded of Sabin and his Blitzes. Perhaps it's not fair to compare, but that's all she has to go on, so far. And in any case, it strangely puts her at ease. Combat, at least, it something she understands, and that his style echoes someone trusted means that she's already more comfortable with him.

She'll remain where she is for the duration of his scenario, only heading back down when it seems that he's done.]

[But the robots aren't quite as simple to bring down as that. They attempt to sweep Adell's legs from under him, a move he evades by jumping up and slamming back down on one of them with a flaming elbow drop.

...Really, what follows is just a brawl between them, an exchange of punches and kicks, with Adell smoothly blocking or evading enemy attacks and countering with his own. It only takes a moment more for the scenario to end, and a red and a blue gate to open in the room.

He takes the blue gate...

Which will allow him to take a break outside.]

[She's back to the ground level just in time to see him exit that scenario. Suddenly self-conscious, she takes a step back.]

...hello.

[He's a little surprised to see her too, actually. Given her forgetting this place, he's surprised she would come here.]

Oh, hi Terra. Did I startle you?

[She shakes her head.]

No. I was watching, upstairs.

...not that I was following you. I just thought I would wander around.

[...and try to remember, though she can't bring herself to say it aloud.]

Just checking this place out, huh? Hope I put on a good show.

I can tell you about this place, if you're curious.

[She nods to both comments.]

You did...and yes, please. I don't think I'm ready to try it myself yet, but I still want to hear what you have to say about it.

Well, this place is a simulator. The images and enemies produced here aren't actually real, but they're tangible. Say one of those goons in there shot me, I wouldn't actually get hurt. The simulator keeps track of how much of a beating you take and will eject you if you would've taken lethal damage.

But what makes this place impressive is you can fight... damn near anything you can think of from a lot of different worlds. You can set their difficulty, intelligence, setting? Basically, it's kind of like staging a play. Except you fight all the actors on stage.

[Terra's never seen a play, so there's a blank look at that, yet she gets the rest.]

So...if I wanted to fight creatures in the Narshe Mines again, I could?

[Not that she really wants to, but the possibilities are making her wonder.]

Exactly. You'd just use that terminal over there, and with a little work, you can make exactly that happen. It's pretty great. I use it to fight monsters from my home all the time.

[She mulls that over, nodding a little.]

Do you have to fight? I mean, can you just walk around and see places from home without the monsters?

Actually, you can now. For a long time, that wasn't really a feature. But one of the Malnosso upgraded the facility and actually allowed for that.

...So, not everything they do is bad, at least.
