So this update is just a little (a lot late) I’ve found out that my favorite website for recipes is now going to be a pay to view. However, that is for the monthly menus and since I’m more interested in the individual recipes I can probably live with it. It is a shame though since I had been recommending that site to a lot of people.
This year I am again involved in organizing the Food Drive for my ward which is why having this last week off was a good thing. I think we will break out to about the same number of routes as last year. Most of those who were involved last year are again involved this year we added a few routes and a few have gone dormant because the families will be out of town. I hope we do reasonably well since it sounds like the food banks are in dire straights this year. Most food banks are already dipping into their
cash reserves. I’m hoping that since we did this last year that people will expect it this year and we might get a bit of a better response. I’ve dropped some bags off at my Massage Therapist because she sounded interested when I spoke to her about it and coincidentally I had bags that I had to make up in the back of the car.
I unfortunately, missed the case lot sale from Save On foods. Maybe next year.
I have continued my baking. This time I have made some
Rattle Snake Rolls which starts with a crescent roll recipe. I had to look that one up and found a
whole wheat one that I adapted to the bread machine. It seems to have worked.
They aren’t as spicy as I would have liked nor are they much to look at but they work. Maybe with a bit of hot sauce added later or maybe cooking the meat with taco seasoning would help it along a bit. I did have to learn that the roll looks better if you roll from the outside to the inside of the pie.
I also made some Lemon Raspberry Muffins. These I haven’t tried yet since I was a little rushed for time so I just made them and froze them.
I am also trying out a new basic
pie crust recipe this one uses shortening (which I have in food storage) rather than cream cheese but it seems to be coming out ok.
I’ve also made some pizza. This used a different recipe than one I used before it is a
herbed pizza dough and it produced enough dough for two pizzas. I also used a different recipe for the sauce. The one I had before was basically tomato paste and add random spices
this one is a bit more specific on the spices. I did spread it across two pizzas but it would probably be better to have made up two batches of sauce. I was originally going to get Gary to help but he wasn’t so inclined to put toppings on his pizza so I did it for him. It worked out ok and it is ok reheated from frozen as well. We still have a little left over in the freezer.
Gary had a fun time with my birthday present. I had been thinking about assembling a computer to play videos on the tv up in the bedroom. He beat me to it with a LACIE box that can talk to our existing server. The good thing about the box is that it is all solid state so no fan noise. Much better than a computer but it did cost him crawling through the attic for an eight hour day as it rant the network cables and reran how the tv cable went down that wall. (original cable had the jack on the outside wall so we had to run the cable over the door to the ensuite bathroom)
Went shopping at costco on Tuesday this week and I finally got to freezing the cheese today (It had been sitting in the fridge this entire time) out of the 3 packs of sliced cheese I had purchased one the Monetary Jack cheese had mold all over it. This is not good. This is the first time I’ve ever bought cheese from costco and had that happen. I will have to keep an eye on it. I should also probably switch to buy the cheese in the US since it is so much cheaper. Need to make a run down there some time but it won’t be in the immediate future since I will be busy for the next little bit.
