Morning class.

I usually don’t make it in for the morning classes (starting at 10 30, yeah shut up I know). I’m not a morning person, but for some reason, the few mornings when I have made it, I tend to retain a bit more, and do a bit better. Gonna try to make it in a bit more often. Theres this one other big guy (270) who also is a blue belt. Dig rolling with him, and tapping him. I find now that bigger guys are easier to deal with for some reason. It’s the quick athletic dudes who are elusive and tiny that seem to give me more of a run.

Anyway.

Today we worked on a sweep from butterfly guard. Butterfly guard is a position in which your shins and tops of your feet are placed on the insides of your opponents upper leg theigh, whatever. Your weight is distributed on one of your legs, while the opposite leg is positioned up forming a shield against your opponents body.

It looks like this:

Anyway, the sweep we worked was after we had lost the underhook fight, the first thing one wants to do while playing butterfly guard, is look for an underhook on the leading side (that is, place your arm underneath his armpit, and hook behind his back, this is a dominant hold. Easier control).

Underhook:

anyway, if in the event you have lost this battle and he has an underhook on you, you can perform this sweep if you are a badmotherfucker with skill.

1.) Reach over his shoulder as deep as you can, and if he is wearing a gi, grab his belt. For no gi, contoure to his body as tight as you can.

2.) next reach with your other hand and grab his pant leg, however you can, under his knee whatever

3.) Next sit into him, load his weight up (like you are trying to displace his space with your body), roll to a 45 degree angle over your overhooking shoulder.

4.) Use your legs to push and guide him over to his back, and right into side control.

I have never been to good at sweeps from butterfly guard, so I should probably try to do this sometime while I’m rolling.

Don’t feel necessarily confident in it yet thou.
