My performance review was held last month and my boss gave me a 1 (the highest rating on the 1 to 5 scale). He had offered a cash bonus or a step increase as a reward, and I took the step increase. The thing is, if I manage to get a promotion in less than a year, the cash bonus would have been better. If I somehow get stuck at a 12 for a while,
