First impressions and body language in communication

This entry has been motivated by a conversation I've had with a good friend of mine last Friday night. We were sitting at the bar and discussing our various friendships, and how going to university, choosing different paths in life and all changed those. Sort of. Actually, I should clarify a bit, since the cases were somewhat different. The first one was an online friend, and I'm not sure for how long I knew her - probably less than two years though, yeah. Actually she didn't exactly hate me, but there was some topics that I thought were cool and that we talked about a bunch and she acted real interested in them, but later on I heard that she thought they were pretty much boring as hell. I never really figured out why she just didn't tell me outright that she didn't care for those topics.

The second one was somebody I knew in school. There it gets more complex, since it wasn't a one single time that she said she couldn't stand me - it was several. Apparently she didn't mind my company in small doses, but did find me immensly annoying if I'd hang around for longer periods - which she then wouldn't hesitate to make clear. When she didn't find me annoying, she'd be all friendly and every now and then start talking to me on her own initiative and be real nice. Her I knew for about five years, though we never interacted outside school. The worst thing about it was that whatever it was that I did to annoy her, it was something I was completely oblivious to - and she never stated told me the reason outright. The fact that she was my first love didn't help things much, either.
