Went to the assisted living place today to drop off Dad's depends (adult diapers), and had a bit of a chat with the administrator and resident coordinator. Seems they want to move my Dad into the Special Care unit (which is the nice term for the "Alzheimer's wing ( Read more... )

I'm glad he's got somewhere good to be. Remember to take care of yourself as well.

...and if you haven't tightened up the legal stuff, now would be the time.

My brother (the lawyer) got him to sign a POA over the summer. He's checking the language to make sure it's sufficient for him to handle all his affairs (and to see if he can add me if need be).

I frequently read about people at this stage just walk off and get lost. Very sad.

So it's probably for the best, even if it's certainly stressful for him....

Being able to afford good care is a blessing indeed. So is having children who care. I hope I will be half as good at this, should need ever arise...

Well, at least they are taking good care of him. My uncle is in a nursing home and the staff is very good to him. That's a huge comfort.
