That's how much music is on my iPod right now. I've ripped 2 of the 6 crates of CDs, working backwards through the alphabet. I could have sworn I had more than "Uncle Meat" in my  Frank Zappa collection, though. Our music collection is incredibly varied and bizarre. I have opera, heavy metal, newage, jazz, and other weirdness on there so far.

Highlights are finding my Italian PFM imports and my Vaartina CD. Most amusing was ripping one of R's "Judas Priest" CDs and having the genre come up as "pop". :-)

I'm sure I could be making much better use of my time, but I am justifying this exercise by telling myself these boxes of CDs can now be stored out of the way and out of sight, and not in my dining room. Plus, I can listen to my music again!

In other music news, R has finally (after 15 years) agreed to start a classic rock cover band with me. I bug him daily about when we're going to have a sit-down with the other musicians and talk about the business stuff first. I know it's not his normal way of doing things, but I prefer to meet people when we're not in a rehearsal studio with the clock ticking. I also have to let the other players know that I've got probably the biggest learning curve, having only rarely played keyboards in cover bands - I will have to learn most of the material from scratch and it will take me time to get up to speed on it. So I want to have a fairly firm list of songs to start learning so I don't waste my time. I suppose that's the problem being in original projects for so long. I don't have the repertoire that  I would have if I was in cover bands for the last 20 or so years.

I do however want to do a "medley" of Monster songs: Frankenstein (Edgar Winter), Godzilla  (Blue Oyster Cult), and King Kong (Frank Zappa). I also think my sense of humor may be too obscure for the bar scene.
