Tonight I made
this mexican lasagne. The recipe is great, it was my modifications which slightly backfired. The boys in our household like chili. Me and my Mum, not so much. So I tried to do it half with chili, half with green pepper.
I then forgot where the line was. I made a guess.
All seemed to be going well, until I dished up, looked through my plate and found that my line had been off by, say, NINETY DEGREES.
I had Sam's dinner. The other three enjoyed it. I couldn't taste much after the first bite.
My Grandparents came round today. My Grandma's trying to set me up with the "nice young man" who's just moved in above her. This can only end in acute embarrassment for everyone except Grandma, unless I stamp it out now. She really will call him down every time I go around, and draw attention to the fact that we're both single and around the same age. She's 85. Subtlety is for young folk.
I've seen this guy Ryan once. He's not bad looking, seems friendly, he helped Sam and Gramps building the shed. But I think I couldn't go out with someone who lives above my Grandma because he lives above my Grandma. Would we be able to hide any detail of our relationship from her? Don't be silly.
I just said "our relationship" about I guy I've seen once. That's her fault.
So here are the solutions I've come up with:
1. Claim to have a boyfriend already.
This is a lie, and therefore a sin, and I'd get found out, because it would involve a huge charade of getting someone to pretend to be my boyfriend while Grandma interviews him. This is more trouble than it's worth. And, I don't lie.
2. Declare my intentions of becoming a nun.
This is also a lie. And not a very good one. It'll lead to awkward questions as I have no plans to leave university.
3. Somehow communicate with Ryan and tell him he needs to convince her he's gay/married/refuses to marry someone not of his own religion.
Again, a lie, and I think getting someone to lie for you is the same. And he really doesn't need her trying to set him up with guys.
4. Tell her I'm not really interested.
This is the truth and therefore the only real option. However I'm not sure it's going to work.
