I've probably reinstalled WinXP about a dozen times in the past few days, and service packs a dozen more. I had a trojan/worm attack (in short, I ran something I obviously should not have) which Avast didn't find out about until it updated its DB and it was well too late, with nagging little effects such as not being able to connect only to microsoft.com. Eventually just deleted all my Windows EXEs (goodbye, Windows demo collection). I eventually determined that with SP3, my network connections no longer work, but with SP2, they're okay. This is still bothersome, since just last week I had SP3 with network running fine. Anyway, I'll leave it like this and hold out until I get Windows 7 (we have it at work thru MSDN, but I'd like to actually own it 100% legit). So yeah, score one for Mac/Linux owners for being safer by having fewer virus/worm writers on their platforms. Well, my DOS stuff is still safe, at least!
