Sonnets

Among the mortals faeries trick and prank
With magic that the fools may never know.
What one man sees as ass's bloated shank
Another sees a beauty wrapped in snow.
And as in sleep may we a fool Maab make
May love a fool make we before the Fey.
And have they awe at foolishness's sake
As prancing fools become we by the ray
Of sun and moon and Mars of Jupiter
By likes which magic dare not interfere.
For none but mortals knew of love forever;
As mortal love lasts ever but for here.
As life eternal dwarfs the love Gods feel,
May love eternal all our lives reveal.

When Gods set forth to craft this earth divine,
They crafted water and the air and all.
And then from earth and clay did they refine
The man we know, and thither did he crawl.
But man was lonesome, Gods could not provide
The company in which he could confide;
The pains he knew were none Gods had divined,
For partnership and true love man had pined.
And so in thee see I what Gods could not,
The sea thou dwarf in depth and beauty wide.
Without thou loneliness is ever wrought,
But by my side thy happiness I find.
Through mortal knowing I found you a lover,
'Though Gods made love uneasy to uncover.

Not my best work, but not my worst.
