An additional set of clothing and one of my law textbooks; more useful than most other items I've seen, but nothing that instills in me any sense of indebtedness.

Law textbooks? You a lawyer too?

Seems like there's an awful lot of lawyers being dragged to this place.

Yes - I am Franziska von Karma, the prosecuting prodigy. I, too, have noticed the high frequency of attorneys that reside in this city, though that may simply be a bias toward that with which I am most familiar; after all, I have not personally taken a survey of professions of this city's inhabitants - perhaps there is another that boasts more members. Either way, I do not think it holds any particular significance.

"Prosecuting Prodigy"? That's quite a mouthful. Then again, so is "Franziska von Karma".

Your name must be something remarkably simplistic if you're thrown by a mere six or seven syllables.

I'm just a simple cowboy, Bambina. Don't need anything fancy.

Name's Jake Marshall.

It seems you're a bit out of your element, wouldn't you say?

Just a bit, Pardner, but I'm getting by. Same could be said about all of us, don't you think?

I meant in terms of surroundings. Aren't American cowboys usually found in more ... rural areas? This is a city, as dismal and sparsely-populated as it may be.

Well, I didn't exactly ask to wander here either, Pardner.

No one is suggesting that you did, Jake Marshall! It was simply an observation.

You been here long, Pardner?

vonkarmic January 14 2010, 03:44:41 UTC
I have not - two weeks today, in fact.

Sorry to hear it. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll get out of here before the next dust storm hits. Though I wouldn't know when that might be.

I've heard that some people have been here for close to two years, so my hopes are not high. Additionally, I have it on good authority that there is no way - at least not within the abilities of those here - to leave this city, so what concerns me presently is what happens in the place within which I'm meant to live for the foreseeable future.

And what do you mean, 'dust storm'?
