Once again, hours wasted because? that's right... algebra sucks!!

see, i saw there was a challenge to create a theme over at
hpcreate and so i then set about trying to figure out what the flying rat crap they meant by a 'theme'. once i had that part figured, i put together the first part - the graphic - and then, being the overachiever that i am, i attempted to actually make the theme.
complete.
total.
utter.
FAIL.
I found out about the contest and the 'theme' thing at around 4:30pm on friday. the graphic was done by 8pm or so. i figured out how to change the damn banner on my page at around, uh, 11ish? and in so doing i discovered that it is possible - SUPPOSEDLY - to embed music into your LJ with a permanent account. so given that i have such an account, i want music to play. that's totally reasonable, yes?
it is now 3:45AM on saturday morning. i have read every scrap of S2 and CSS tutorials out on the www. the only helpful information i have gleaned is that the interwebs is constructed of not only 1s and 0s, but also the freakin' algebra rules that link them all together. i hate algebra. particularly when it comes around to bite me in the ass on a bi-monthly basis.
so if anyone would like to be kind and put me out of my misery, my specific confusion on the issue is thus:
the lj-how-to guide says that one must "merely" insert the handy dandy html code into their custom journal style via the S2 generator thingy.
and yet i can't get any of the css to work in their designer. i can do a total blatant cut and paste copy of somebody elses' layers and i still get an error message. try to put html in there and i swear the little corrector comb program delights in laughing at you for being the simplest human creature who dared venture out into the interwebs.
so. how do you go about entering html code in to a css designer?

but at least i have a totally spiffy, very much me, obnoxiously sparkle-y and political-y banner. i been wondering how chi's wifey had done that to her lj for *years* now and i finally figured it out. way to be up on the times. but about par for my time schedules.
speaking of time. it's 4am. i have to be at an easter dinner in 12 hours. and the host requested i try to find a *dress* to wear. i think he's insane but i won't argue. he's dropped something like 200 bucks in to this informal shin-dig this month. so yeah. i suppose i should sleep.
