Adventures in Hair Coloring!!!
okay. so about an hour ago i got it in my head that a good way to wake myself up and get me started on the day was to color my hair.
now, i've done this before. normally it's been a way of restarting after some mental trauma. this time, it's just because i was bored as hell and wandering around Longs with the Resident Gay Man. he was absolutely NO help on the matter, however, so i think queer eye must be a fluke. ::snicker:: he's a light-dirty blonde, very pale skin, and kept picking up bottles of bleach blonde to attack his own hair with. i had to threaten to kick his ass before he would part with the bleach. he told me i should go red and picked up a box of stuff that was just this brassy, unhealthy looking color on the model, so yet again i demanded that he put it down. i knew i should have called emily before i undertook this project. ::sigh::
so, only 3/4 the way to full wakefullness, i walked in to the bathroom at 8:40 this morning to start battling the hair stuff. first off, the bottle of 'developing creme' wouldn't mix with the bottle of color. i figured that couldn't be a good thing but after ten minutes of shaking the stupid bottle until my brain rattled, i gave up. after all, the color's only good for an hour after it first starts to mix, yes? then i look at the kit and go 'ohshit'... i'm used to the highlighting kits, that have bright pink color and this spiffy little comb to help the process along. this mixture is the exact same brown color as half my hair. and what's worse.... i can't see the back of my head to make sure i was getting everything in there. and i of course, in my infinite wisdom, thought it would be fun to have upper half of head be natural and lower half of head be this nice honey blonde to help along the spring time's natural bleaching effects, so half my head is in a ponytail in the "don't touch this!!!" fashion. ponytail then flipped forward and clipped to the top of my head to make it impossible to get colored, but it's sooooo totally now in the way of trying to do things blindly!!!
at 9am, dad calls out just to see if i'd ever gotten out of bed since i had asked him to make sure i didn't sleep in until noon again. i reply that "yup, i'm awake, but i think i'm screwing things up... " and i apparently sounded pitiful because dad started laughing as soon as i told him what i was attempting to do. he tried waking up ali, asking her to wake up long enough to do the 'community service' of making sure her sister didn't have a spotted head. ali had no pity and kept snoring. =cP',',',',
so dad bemusedly calls my mom. "how's your morning going so far?" he asks her in a highly amused, hyper tone. mom starts to reply, then thinks better of it and asks slowly, suspiciously, "Why?" (smart woman has learned a few things in the past 33 years.) so dad happily tells her that her daughter can't reach the back of her own head. so mom needed a mental break (that's how well work was going, apparently) and volunteered to come fix my hair for me.
she walked in the door at 9:10. i'd had some of the gunk in my hair for ten minutes, but it was a pitiful small amount. and i'd started unknowingly dragging the color into a v-shape at the back of my head... so that required changing of the ponytail scheme. all told, we didn't finish getting the color in my hair until about 9:35. it's supposed to be in your hair for 25 minutes. so i then waited 25 minutes to let it soak in to the rest of it...
now, supposedly this is only supposed to take my hair two shades lighter than what it is, so it's hopefully not going to be platinum blonde when it dries. but good gawd it's a lot of work. i knew i should have consulted emily first. ::sigh::
never let me get this bored again. otherwise i might just be tempted to try for a nice mix of light blue and pink streaks. that'd be fun...
Update: ehh, hardly any real damage at all. i think maybe it went all of half a shade lighter. blah. but ohwell. i'm actually thankful because i know it could have been SOOOOO MUCH WORSE... last time i played with a full kit instead of a highlight kit, i accidentally turned emily in to a leopard... 0=cD
