Boston: Day 4

May 14, 2010 00:06

Today was the final day of the conference and it was only a half-day. Despite being sick and only getting another few hours of sleep, I actually made it to the first session of the day. It was even pretty interesting. The second session was surprisingly better. I slept through half of the third session because it was fairly mediocre but it gave me the chance to talk to a subject matter expert about an issue we've been having and get his business card. I skipped the last session but stuck around for lunch between sessions, anyway.

After eating, I went back to my hotel and walked around the neighborhood. The North End is pretty neat. I walked along the harbor, down the street to an amusingly named wharf and back up the street full of Italian restaurants to get a picture of the place at which I ate on Sunday night. I also passed by the Old North Church and got some pictures of the Paul Revere statue and the church. I didn't have much time but I walked quickly and took a bunch more pictures. I didn't see anyone I trusted with my camera so I couldn't get any shots of me there. I did get the doorman of my hotel to at least take a picture of me next to the wharf sign near where I was staying.

I was cutting it close and didn't feel like walking any more so I took a land taxi to the airport. I still got to the gate an hour ahead of boarding time. As I was heading back to get some juice, I noticed a woman sitting down with some glasses on the floor behind her chair. I picked them up and returned them to her. It would later turn out that she was my seatmate for the flight from Boston to Phoenix. The return trip itself was pretty uneventful besides being late/early/late in a bizarre lineup of events. We'd leave late from one place, arrive early and get stuck waiting for our gate to be free. The net result was that I got home an hour later than expected but none the worse for wear.

And this time I'm actually going to get to bed before dawn...in either time zone.
