Let's Explore My Book Collection

During the weekend, I was clearing out a cupboard in my room and found an ancient book from 1946, which I purchased from a second hand book store in San Francisco five years ago, when I was there on holiday. I bought it mainly because I like illustrations from that period, but the book - which was once, according to the big, proud writing inside it, owned by a Mr. Cardinale - turned out to be a goldmine of dated (or just plain weird) wisdom.

I showed the book to Lande and we both got so fascinated by it, I thought it needed a wider audience. So, possibly in violation of some copyright treaties, here are a couple of my favourite pages:

Besides that literary adventure, I’ve spent most of the weekend north of the river. Ran into vulcanita, Colin and faithais & hubby on Saturday night, went to the cinema yesterday for the first time in aaaaages and saw Knocked Up (which wasn’t my choice, but was actually a lot better than I’d been expecting). Meanwhile, my parents went off to see Status Quo (smirk - oh well, they say they had fun). And in my usual Monday style, I’m about ready to fall over in a big heap now.

books, weirdness, films
