Howard's predictable post-bank holiday weekend summary post

Friday - The article I’m illustrating for the Academy finally turned up in my inbox, with a note that the deadline had now been extended to today. As it was the last day at work before a long weekend, people in my office were technically allowed to leave at four o’clock. This didn’t quite work in practice because I was in the middle of dealing with a small emergency, but I eventually emerged butterfly-like from the *** building and headed in the vague direction of St. Paul’s for soho_black’s “I’m escaping from Harlow” big drinking occasion. It was a nice end to a busy week and I can half-remember a long discussion with wormburger about religion on the train back to Croydon afterwards.

Saturday - I met up with Christine in the early afternoon and we went in search of an art exhibition on the South Bank. We managed to totally miss the Barbican Centre and it became a meandering riverside pub visit instead - not a bad thing in itself, as the weather had dramatically improved. Christine’s husband joined us a bit later too and I got an uncontrollable urge to go into a bookshop and get the latest edition of Roger’s Profanisaurus. In the evening, after a couple of strong coffees, I made a start on the illustration work. I did get invites to go to Slimelight and Gordian, but decided I’d spent enough time staying up late recently and really should get on with some work instead.

Sunday - Apart from a lunch with my parents and grandmother, and a long-ish walk in the early evening, this day was entirely given over to illustrating. I finally got it finished and sent off just before midnight.

Monday - I did some work on my animating in the morning, then went up into Camden in the afternoon to meet Lande. We had lunch in the Stables Market and wandered around looking at the stalls, mainly just so we can say we did that one last time before it all gets ruined by the redevelopers. There were a handful of people dressed as zombies around Camden - not entirely sure why, unless they were still having an after party from Sunday morning’s attempt at a world record zombie-something-or-other in Leicester Square? Well, it's always nice to see zombies, whatever the reason. We then, predictably, went to the Dev for a bit, had some random conversation with a few mini goths about music, bumped into morbidfrog, vulcanita and Faith and ended up following them to the Purple Turtle to see some live music. I’d not heard of most of the bands and had to leave after the first two because it was getting late, but it was a good night.
