On my way home from work I was in my car driving down lower Wacker drive, which is a quasi underground roadway system beneath downtown and on top of the Chicago River, when flipping through the radio stations to come upon the song, "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace. I love this song. This is the kind of song you hear and all you want to do is sing at the top of your lungs with friends and dance. Later, I met up with some Brigade folks at the Hideout to scope out the final lay out and finish the touches on Saturdays Dance Derby. Anyway, there was this group called, Led Zeppelin 2 gearing up. We were trying to discuss timing and event schedules when blaring out of the stage area was "Heartbreaker" and "Whole Lotta Love". It was intense because all of us were busy trying not to sing along, and some, not chair dance. We ended up having to go upstairs into the offices because the distraction was infectious. Afterward, tired and excited at the same time, I was driving home when to my delirium, "I'm Still Standing!" by Elton John came on. I almost crashed into the medium due to erratic and convulsatory body movements. By the time I finally made it home, I was able to check my email a few times and do some quick glances at a few sites that I've been meaning to check out when to my amazement, "Jolene" by Dolly Parton came on.
Friends, I was in a state of shock. I've never in my entire life been so lucky as to have a radio sundae like this. I felt so good that I bought a scratchy this morning on my way into work. I got $2 which will be funneled back into purchasing more scratchies. I feel it people, I feel it in my bones, this is gonna be my week. I'm gonna win something big, meet *Thurston Moore or find out what happened between Reese & Phillipe. Oh life is good.
I betcha I hear "Crimson & Clover" by Tommy James and The Shondells today, if I do, I might explode.
*By the way Thurston Moore is playing tonight at the Hideout in a tribute to Sun Ra.
