The ORIZZONTI AWARD (full-length films)
to KOTOKO by Shinya TSUKAMOTO (Japan)
“This film moves freely through numerous genres to create an impressive representation of a woman’s fragile psychological state, a deeply disturbing meditation on loneliness and the contemporary urban experience. Shinya Tsukamoto has crafted a powerful visual language to enter into the mind of his protagonist”
The SPECIAL ORIZZONTI JURY PRIZE (full-length films)
to WHORES’ GLORY by Michael GLAWOGGER (Austria, Germany)
“The oldest profession becomes a mirror to a global labyrinth of sex and commerce that Glawogger captures with stunning visual eloquence and precision. Prostitutes in Bangkok, Bangladesh and Mexico are filmed with dignity and respect , detailing the complex spatial politics and social issues generated by globalization”
The ORIZZONTI AWARD (short films)
to IN ATTESA DELL’AVVENTO byFelice D’AGOSTINO, Arturo LAVORATO (Italy)
“Bringing new energy to the long history of experiments in found footage filmmaking, In attesa dell’avvento creates a cinematic prism that explores the murky politics of the past and their crucial implications for the uncertainties of the present”
The ORIZZONTI AWARD (medium-length films)
to ACCIDENTES GLORIOSOS by Mauro ANDRIZZI, Marcus LINDEEN
(Sweden, Denmark, Argentina)
“The jury appreciated the experimental approach to commissioning this film and its encouragement of new ways of collaboration. The film is an interesting collage of disparate spaces, objects and people brought together in the dark space of the cinema”
A SPECIAL MENTION
to O LE TULAFALE (THE ORATOR) by Tusi TAMASESE (New Zealand, Samoa)
“Tusi Tamasese expands the border of cinema with this mystical tale of brave individuals negotiating the politics of community in the Samoan countryside. A culture unfamiliar to many takes the screen with striking images and anecdotal flair. Following his first feature, we look forward to his next film”
A SPECIAL MENTION
to ALL THE LINES FLOW OUT by Charles LIM Yi Yong (Singapore)
“Charles Lim Yi Yong’s striking cinematography maps the water passages of the contemporary city, creating an abstract mystery appropriate to an era of hyper-mobility, virtual networks and ecological crisis”
The Jury, after screening the 16 European short films in the Orizzonti competition, has decided to give
The VENICE SHORT FILM NOMINEE FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS
