100 Super Junior Fic Challenge “It is FINALLY over,” Heechul sang gleefully as he pranced around his bedroom. The day was over.
“I thought you were starting to enjoy it,” Sungmin spoke as he tidied Heechul’s bedroom.
“Nah, I was just fooling around with them. Was too bored anyway.”
“Oh.”
The room was quiet except for Sungmin’s soft ruffling of Heechul’s bedsheets.
“Say, wouldn’t it be better if you could open my locket?”
Sungmin froze.
“Then I wouldn’t have to go through all this, and we can live happily ever after.” Heechul chortled, sitting on his bed. “You don’t have anything towards homosexuality do you?”
Sungmin quickly shook his head.
“Are you blushing?!” Heechul laughed incredulously as he inched towards Sungmin. “I can’t believe it!” He snickered at the sight of Sungmin, blushing and clutching at the bed sheets. “Has yours not been opened yet?”
No response.
“I know! Then why don’t I open it for you?” Heechul giggled, jumping up and reaching for Sungmin’s locket. Sungmin started and jumped back, trying to escape from Heechul’s grasp. Who knows what might happen if he touches my locket, Sungmin thought, terrified.
They run around the room, Sungmin aiming for the door to flee. The chaser was enjoying his act of mischief, while the other was scrambling for his life.
Sungmin’s foot tripped on a towel and he crashed to the ground. Groaning, he realized that Heechul was standing above him, each of his legs trapping Sungmin both left and right. Still chuckling, Heechul reached down and offered his hand. “Need some help?”
Sungmin stared up at the person above him and grasped his hand, pulling himself up when pain shot through his ankle, causing him to fall and pull Heechul down along with him. Sungmin moaned in pain until he realized that Heechul was lying directly on top of him.
Heechul propped himself up with his arms and straddled Sungmin’s torso. “Are you alright? Why’d you suddenly fa--“ he stopped midsentence and gaped incredulously at Sungmin.
“I think it’s my ankle. I-Why are you staring at me like that?”
Heechul pointed speechlessly at Sungmin’s neck. “You-your-it’s-“
Sungmin glanced down. His breath hitched and his heart skipped a beat. He quickly snapped the glowing locket shut and covered it with his hands. “It’s nothing.”
Both stared at each other wordlessly until Heechul, slowly and tenderly, held Sungmin’s hand in his own. He lifted it up to his own neck. Sungmin stopped breathing when Heechul pressed his hand onto his closed locket. A soft click, and the locket sprang open, the red glow also beating in sync with Sungmin’s a few moments ago.
It’s over, Sungmin thought, the end of the world. Heechul will freak out. He turned his head sideways, not daring to look into the other’s eyes.
“Can I get up now?” Sungmin asked harshly. He felt the weight above him disappear and he stood up wincing and turned, without finishing his job, around and limped towards the door.
“Wait,” he heard Heechul’s cracked voice. He stopped his footsteps but didn’t turn around. He tried to sound strong, despite the shaking of his voice. “I know what you’re thinking. Why would the locket pair us together? Even if I did love you, you would never-“ Sungmin’s voice stuck in his throat as two arms wrapped around him.
“Don’t blame the locket. The locket is never wrong.” Heechul murmurs, his breath ghosting on his ear. “I am so thankful for what it did. It finally proved that my feelings were true.”
“What are you-“
“Shhh. I love you Sungmin. I had, am, and will, always. And I’m so glad to know that you do too.” Sungmin’s shoulder felt wet; he realized that Heechul was crying. “It was so hard to go through those two days meeting numerous girls that I didn’t know. It was worse when I knew you were watching. I tried to distract myself by talking to them. I knew something happened last night between the two of us. But I can’t remember. You don’t hate me for what I did, do you?” Heechul sniffled.
Sungmin turned slowly around to face the other and tiptoed to kiss the elder’s tears away. “I don’t hate you. It’s the opposite. Doesn’t my locket prove enough?” This time Sungmin lead Heechul’s hand to open his own locket. It sprung open once again and its glow reflected in both of their eyes. The small crack that formed earlier slowly mended and disappeared from the surface. “I love you. So much.”
As their fingers entwined together and their lips touched again, they both, secretly deep inside, thank fate for causing everything to happen, good or bad. Nothing can be in their way, when their hearts and lockets finally are able to beat together, creating a bond that lasts forever.
