A shock can obscure, and a shock can reveal. It takes patience, and time, and brutal honesty to see clearly. The impulse to panic, to judge, to move quickly and irrevocably to a conclusion, any conclusion, is strong. It pulls like a riptide, relentless, compelling, impossible to fight. Rushing ahead, am I being pushed by panic or pulled by events?

Slow down. Calm down. Think. Feel.
