Nests

Apr 07, 2013 11:29

This morning I watched a variety of birds flit back and forth in front of the glass door onto the deck. I had put some grapevine wreaths-in-progress on top of a container which was on top of a cooler. Just to get them out of the way so I could clean the not-coming-clean tile in the foyer. I thought the birds might be scavenging the vines for nesting material, it being that time of year.
In any case, after watching for a while in between checking the news on the net, I spied out their goal. The little birds were popping into the hole in the side of the container, which holds some mesh panels, and coming out with bits of leaf and twig. Apparently there was some dried leaves inside, possibly the remains of a mouse nest. I'm thinking mouse because the dog was inordinately attracted to the bits when I pulled them out of the container for easier bird access.
A mouse nest which will now be part of a bird nest. The circle of life, eh?
