stupid b5 question: a matter of timing

Feb 09, 2012 18:55

In Falling Towards Apotheosis, we have the end of Bad!Kosh, with the little convo between Delenn and Lorien over John's (dead) body. Then we have the Big Reveal of Fairly Imminent Death in Sheridan's quarters. So, how long is the question now, as it was the question then. That is, how long between those two scenes? Minutes, hours, a day ( Read more... )

I kind of assumed that it was an hour or two between the two scenes. John wouldn't have let it wait too long, I don't think.

I think John bought the ring after he returned from Z'ha'dum, at some point just going from one place to another in the station. He admits it's just a temporary kind of thing, right? I don't think he had it sitting around before he left.

I think so too, but it's very unclear. Probably better in the timing for me though. So yay.

It's an interesting point about the ring. I think he wasn't clear on the marriage thing until he knew in his heart of hearts Anna was really most sincerely dead. (bonus points if you catch that reference!)

Also dying crystallizes the mind around the whole 'carpe diem' thing. So yes, buying the ring after his return. Which means while he was 'avoiding' Delenn and she was eating her heart out gearing up to apologize, he was out buying a ring. *sigh* I quite like that.

It would mean he didn't buy it in this au though, because married. Hmm. Have to think about that one.

The ring scene always hangs up for me because the thing was a perfect fit. It's really hard to guess someone's ring size. So my mind wanders off to ploys to get a string around her finger, trying on mood rings at that Spencer Gifts in the Zocalo...

I would need to rewatch that episode (having only seen the show through once so far) in order to know about timing or rings. I think I vaguely had the impression that John had planned the ring for A While, and I also think that when I saw it assuming that, it threw me a little. So it may be more likely that he realized he wanted to give her the ring as a sign of commitment at that point, and went out and got it as...more impulsive? Like not that the commitment was impulsive but that the ring was something he bought just then.

He's not going to propose in this au because married. But he might have bought the ring.

Is it wrong that this is making me go "Oh, my heart!"? Because goodness, this is all kinds of interpersonal angst between three characters I adore. :)

(Have finally put you on my friends' list, so I may actually see your posts now and make good on the offer to help brainstorm. ^__^)

It is deliciously angsty, isn't it? Though I may have to give it up because of internal logic.

I'll friend you back shortly (writing before leaving for work here!) I wrote out a long babble to you last night then (metaphorically) tore it up. I don't know where I am in this thing, not quite stuck but stalled.

Feel free to babble away! That is an annoying point (or series of points, or plateau, or--) in the writing process, isn't it? I can see how the part of the story you're facing now that John has come back would be much harder to write than what you've got to date. And not just because he's sticking his oar in. Things sound more complex overall.

If you want a distraction, I have committed fic again! Trying to post it to FF.n but that was down last night. It's Delenn/Sinclair (yes I typed that right, Jeff not John), technically written for this spring's Porn Battle but really not very porny. Over here on DW or (more SFW because not on PB site) at AO3.

(edit because brainglitch = I cannot spel homofonez today)
