Five or so things make a Post--

The computer professional at work, who is copying my hard drive remotely onto my new computer (exciting!)...has locked up my old computer so I couldn't access my e-mail. It kept telling me I needed to 'verify my credentials'. Finally it shut down completely and won't let me on no matter how much I beg. I leave on ( Read more... )

Me too! And I was so surprised, and surprised I was surprised, when I found out he'd gone back to get his doctorate in astrophysics!

I've been trying to read at least one fic a day. If I keep it just at that, and not, "I have to read every fic by every person right now!" then it stays manageable, and I don't feel awful for not getting around to all of it right now.

It's not so much the time with me (well, it is the lack of time, but that's not the main thing). It's the intimidation factor. If I read a lot of good stuff, I tend to crawl into a hole and hide. Sometimes I pull the hole in after me. It's not a pleasant trait, but there it is.
I plan to copy a lot of stuff over to my e-reader and read it on vacation. I don't feel the same anxiety on the reader, for some reason. Maybe it's the distance, or the lack of ability to comment.

I get that. I feel that way sometimes watching a really good movie or episode of TV. "I'll never be able to write like that," I say. Sometimes I have to take time off from writing, but more often I try to find something I wrote that I know is good - even if it's just a single line - and remind myself that I am awesome.

Although I feel I should point out at this juncture that you're a wonderful writer. Not just sayin' that, because I don't do easy pablum praise sandwiches. (Is that...a sentence?) Seriously, though, don't beat yourself up.

That was part of the point of the Archive project, which is stalled, sigh, but that's so I can actually finish John/Anna for this month. It makes me read old stuff, and occasionally I can even say 'Well, that doesn't suck.'

Mmm. pablum praise sandwich. Which reminds me, dinner must be made. I can't actually just feed my boys donuts and nothing else.

Can I?
