Update time!
Chick Flick is alive again, at least for now. I started this story in August 2008 (Good God). Counted it up tonight; had about 6000 words as of Christmas, and we stand at 8800 now. ALIVE, I tell you! The timing issue is resolved, although there are some wonky plot points and strange segues that will hopefully shake out in the beta'ing. It's a bit cutesy too. I apologize in advance. I wrote some OOC dialogue for Susan today that's bugging me, but I soldier on. There are five, no six, no seven, ack eight! OCs so far. Three humans (two girls, one boy), four Minbari (two girls, two boys), and a Centauri in a Pear Tree. Wait, strike the tree. There are no pear trees on Minbar. Of course three of the Minbari are recurring characters. Some of the new ones may be too! Exciting! I'm estimating 10-12K so I have a lot to do. And gulp, I am approaching the dreaded fight scene. Pikes out! (Or is that Pikes Up?)
Work is bo-o-oring. And sort of busy. And that's enough of that.
Saturday we go to look at a dog. Another gulp. I've wanted another one for so long, but this feels...Staged? Planned? Momentous? Scary? The boys are coming along and I'm afraid they'll fall in love, and I'll have practical-type qualms. Or vice versa. It's a bit larger type dog that I wanted, but he has lovely eyes. We'll see.
I still have all the Xmas stuff to take down Sunday. Sigh.
I got the first disc of Chuck S1 today from Netflix. Now to carve out watching time...
PTA tomorrow. *grumble* And I just finished the November minutes. I am losing all impetus for this job.
Started to follow
Grammar Girl (Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing), after hearing her on NPR. She gave me a tip that may finally break my perennial problem with 'lie' and 'lay'. ('Lie' sounds like 'recline'! Neat, huh?)
My mother is growing more and more isolated, and would like the modern version of a penpal, i.e. social media interactivity. She has fairly conventional interests; gardens, cooking, football (she's a college football nut), collecting china and glass. My youngest sister set her up with a Facebook, but she has no clue what to do with it (and neither do I really). Any suggestions?
And now it's bedtime for us early risers. I am reading The Three Musketeers on my eReader, and enjoying the heck out of it. Stephen Brust practically cribbed this book for The Phoenix Guards. I love parody and pastiche. And panache. Athos is my favorite Musketeer, in case you were wondering.
Also reading all the lovely posts on Doctor Who:The End of Time. And have added
aliettedb (Aliette de Bodard) to the reading list, at least her journal. I liked her at WorldCon, and am looking forward to reading her background material on the Aztecs.
