America the capitalist

"I've graduated through seven years of college, and now work full time as a third grad school teacher.

-I also own a fourteen year old car, work four nights a week as a hotel maid, and live in a single bedroom five hundred square foot apartment.

-I only pay for things I need; bills, food, gas, toiletries, medicine, college loans. I haven't bought anything I've actually wanted in at least three years. I can't remember the last time I actually had a day off. It's been literally pay check to pay check every month."

I can't even begin to express how many times I have heard a story very similar to this one. Within today's economy, everyone seems to be struggling, even people with what use to be good solid high paying jobs and college degrees.

People often ask me why I don't go to college and why I choose to have a minimum wage job. Well, I honestly don't see the point in going to college and getting into some deep debt because of it, only to get a degree so I can get a high paying job so I can use that income to pay off that debt for the rest of my life. And I don't choose to have a minimum wage job. I don't think anyone chooses that. People just don't have a choice. It's no longer a possibility for someone to just go out and find a new and better job these days. And what's worse, it's no longer possible to even move up in a work place either. You can work your ass off, give all you can give, and still be stuck in the same dead end position.

America is at a point in it's history where it's now very common for people to be losing their homes, jobs, and start turning for the government for any hand outs they can get just to survive. This precarious situation, in my opinion, is the cause of Bush, in the addiction for petroleum. Greed and disrespect is growing rampant for a fellow men in this country, and it's only going to get worse. For the few times of any hope where the economy may seem to turn around, it will be short lived, as the prices will go straight back up.

I honestly believe, that we as a country will never get out of this. Ever. People are consumed by so much greed and ignorance, that they will only stop at it, untill it threatens to kill them. With new technology, toys, and popularity, people will stop at nothing to pay for what they want, even if it puts them in debt. The greed of the rich is what is putting the once over ruling middle class into the gutters. And the more the people of wall street achieve this, the more embedded our probelms will become. I truely believe this is something that has become a permanent problem.

America has become over populated with the avarice of mankind. And with that comes disregard for respect, understanding, and humbleness towards others.

Roosevelt had the right idea. The American dream consists of having EVERY American the right to have a decent paying job, a decent house, and health insurance. Is that so much to ask for? The right to have shelter, your health, and ability to provide for your family?
