My Indie Top 5!

Jun 09, 2007 02:39

This is my top 5 for June.

1. Baby Calendar
I specifically recommend the song Fifteen Year Old Sneakers. These guys are the absoloutely ace combination of twee pop and punk. I'm a huge fan of the male&female vocals, and just the general sound. They really deserve the number one spot.

2. Desmond Reed
Sadly, you can't download his tracks on here, but this kid's definitely worth a listen. There's something really endearing about a guy recording songs with his acoustic guitar on his 4-track.

3. Pelle Carlberg
I found out about this guy thanks to the New York City Popfest, and he's fantastic. It's just pure good music, and it makes me giggle and dance, and that's the closest I get to proper physical activity.

4. My Teenage Stride
These guys are one of those bands that doesn't bother to hide their influences. I didn't like them too much at first, but then I heard the track Actors' Colony, and they've really grown on me since then. Give them a chance, because they're fun, as long as you don't mind reliving the '80s.

5. Pants Yell!
I've been listening to these guys for a while, but I felt that they deserved a spot here. Their website describes them as "cryptic bedroom pop" and I like that, even if only because it makes me giggle in a purely immature way. They're fun twee pop. If I had to compare them to someone, I'd go Say Hi To Your Mom, but Pants Yell! are more talented and have more variety to their music.
