The devastation and ongoing tragedies in Japan in the wake of the massive earthquake, the horrible tsunami, and the numerous significant aftershocks are all too apparent. Even as the need for aid is clear, the full extent of the loss of life, injuries and property damage probably won't be clear for a long time to come.
The Huffington Post
has collected a good starting point of links of ways you can help in Japan.
As of yesterday, UNICEF reported in an email to their regular donors that they have not yet been asked for aid by Japan, but stand ready to respond if so called.
Since the Huffington Post link page was collected,
Doctors Without Borders has expanded its presence and work in Japan.
It is important to remember that New Zealand is still very much in the recovery phase of its own devastating earthquake, and donations to Red Cross of New Zealand can be made
here.
And, let's not forget the ongoing slow economic earthquake taking place in the economy here and the numbers of people who rely on local
food pantries and shelters.
Many of us live lives that are really so very lucky and privileged. If you can share some of your luck and privilege through a donation, it seems like a good time to do so.
Peace, Viv
