North Shore Sprint #1: "Raging Isle Sprint".
"Sprint" I did not, swim and finish I did.
Rough-water swims are crazy. Everyone's so serious! And crazy competitive, stretches, warming up, yoga, running. Laura and I just show up to finish it, eff racing! That takes the fun out of it for me.
Most of the swim starts are in the water, so once that siren blares everyone takes off and you're swimming in a spa full of kick bubbles. And everyone's either in your way or passing you which freaks you out and hence tires you out. That was my trouble at least. Then I ended up swimming so far out that it probably wasted a lot of time in addition to my many stops and a lot of "Eff am I there yets?!" I messed up mentally, I had absolutely no perserverance or focus.
But eh, I did it. Here's a photo of us with Laura's friend Kevin. He's super fast. Laura did really well too.
Next up! Saturday morning! #2
Last Friday Laura and I swam to that rock, climbed it, explored it, jumped off of it, then swam back.
This morning, Laura, our dads, and I swam the whole course. I really like this swim, a lot. The water is super clear and you can see the sandy bottom floor adorned with reef heads here and there. Once you get around the rock it's a liiiiitle tougher because of the current, but still pretty and realllly deep. You look around and its just nothing but deep blue, IT'S CRAZY! as long as you keep the thoughts of possible shark attacks away. Anyway, it's real nice and I want to swim it again Thursday morning and then do the REAL swim Saturday. My hope is not to be fast necessarily, but to not stop, not get myself down, and just focus, and feel good.
In other news:
NIKOS COMES BACK FRIDAY!!! FUCK YEAH! He's my pal.
I'm excited because I miss talking, laughing, and drinking with this fool. He's such a good friend, seriously. It should be interesting to see how he's changed, and how our whole group dynamic will change now that he's back. We can start on our book we're creating yessssss!
