Saw two movies recently -
Greenberg and
Heartbraker. What's interesting is that the main character in Greenberg is 40 - and is acting like his life is pretty much over. He's blown a chance to sign a record label 15 years ago, has recently checked out of a mental institution and is resigned to watch his friends get old and raise their children.
In Heartbraker the main characters are 35-36 and are acting like they are in the prime of their young years - going out all night, plannig weddings and having their whole life ahead of them. Really acting like 20-year olds would 20 years ago.
The movies' location may provide the answer. Greenberg takes place in LA - which like all movies about US suburbia is about people being depressed. Heartbraker takes place in southern France - specifically Monaco. There is an abundance of sun in both locations - but for some reason US is much more depressing.
Pictures just for fun.
Greenberg:
The chick from Heartbraker - wife of Johnny Depp in real life. And the guy - some french actor
