The Awesome Weekend

This past weekend was so much fun!

Adam and I went to see The Lemonheads at the Hatch Shell on Saturday.  Although we only got to see half of their set, we found friends and LOTS of free samples!  I didn't even get sunburned!  Soooooooo many dogs to pet!!  Total success!

In a totally uncharacteristic move on our part, we had our friends Katie and Jason come visit us in JP the same night and we went out for drinks.  They were already there bike riding on Centre Street.  We went to the Drinking Fountain (which is WAY less sketchy than YELP reviewers say) and had $2.25 PBR's before heading over to Tacos el Charro for burritos!  Service was great and the food ruled!

I often feel like a total outsider being around pals who have other friendships since childhood.  I feel pretty lonely when I read updates on all the social networking sites describing awesome weekends with awesome friends...of which I am not invited or included.  But after not seeing Katie and Jason for more than a year (even though they live in Somerville), we were talking and laughing like we had just seen each other last week.  I finally felt like I had chums that I could just talk to without feeling awkward or holding back.

Don't get me wrong, I know that it is 99.9% my fault for not having any lasting friendships.  I'm not only lazy, but I have an incredible lack of confidence and self-worth.  Initiating social situations forces me to ask myself, "Does this person really want to talk to me?"  My usual response to myself is "no freaking way."  It also doesn't help that my best friends live in CA (kenobi ) and Cranston, RI (Miss Katy).  I am aware that RI is not that far away from Jamaica Plain, but she is one busy momma!  We try to hang out all the time but it never works out.

So I guess my point is that I DO have good friends and shouldn't get so upset if others would rather seek the company of others.  I'm just not that popular.  But others enjoy my company so screw it.  I just have to remember my place amongst the people around me and accept it.

Oh man!  I went on a rant and didn't mention that on Sunday, Adam, Chandler and I went to the Hot Dog Safari at Suffolk Downs!  We had so many hot dogs and samples...most were good.  Pretty crowded and will probably never go again, but fun nonetheless.

Operation Weekend:  SUCCESS!!
