That's a lot of miles

Okay, so I was bored. So I added all the houses that I could remember the location for into Google Earth on my computer. Which is everything from 1999 onward. Mind you, I don't recall the address for all of them. But me, in my infinite weirdness can make a mental bird's-eye-view map of where we are whist driving around. Which is helpful when finding something via Googel Earth.

Anyways, yesterday my mom showed me where some of our other houses were. I recalled and marked the last two in New York ('96-'98 ish) and the one in Texas. So that's nine houses marked. Well, then that got me thinking... What's the distance between them?

So I started using the ruler tool and measuring between certain moves. Well, I wondered how much it's been total. So, since I didn't have all the houses I’ve ever lived in marked (and wasn't positive on house #2 in New York) I started from New York house (apartment) #3. I made a path to the door of all the houses/moves I've made since then (We moved from that house to Texas in '98)

Here are the distances, door to door.

New York house #3 - Texas = 1,424.82 mi (2293.03 km)
Texas - Colorado = 736.97 mi (1186.04 km)
Colorado - Alaska = 2,483.78 mi (3997.26 km)
Alaska - Hawaii = 2,526.40 mi (4065.85 km)
Hawaii - Alaska = 2.526.40 mi (4065.85 km)
Alaska - Florida = 3,855.09 mi (6204.18 km)
Florida - Ohio = 919.14 mi (1479.22 km)
Ohio - Massachusetts = 565.76 mi (910.50 km)

Total = 15,038.36 mi (24201.94 km)

Keep in mind, the equator is about 24,901.5 mi (40,075 KM) all the way around. So I've gone more then half way!

Now add in this fact. These lines are point A to point B. Seriously, that's not how you get somewhere. Plus, the other moves not in this list, including a move from Alaska to New York. Not to mention 'everyday travel' and other trips (like EAGLE) I think it's safe to say, I've traveled more then the distance around the equator!

Cool :)

P.S. I did this at 1 AM.

moving, google, bored, rl
