My new computer is now complete. Today, the last components arrived in the mail - the video card and a copy of Vista. When I first built the computer, I just used the onboard video and was planning on running XP and Linux as a dual boot, but XP wouldn't install, so I just kept Linux. I recently bought a copy of Vista (my first legit OS purchase, although I should count XP, just cause I got scammed by a company illegally reselling VLKs doesn't mean I didn't shell out $100), and installed that after putting in my new video card. For all who care, my system is now...
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0ghz dual core
4gb (2 x 2gb) OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066
750gb SATA HDD
Diamond ATI HD 3870 512mb
Plus other miscellaneous stuff. Gigabyte mobo, LG DVD burner, etc. The above stuff is the important stuff. It's more than double the speed of my old computer, with four times the RAM, double the HDD (on a single device, whereas my old one had 2 drives), and a far superior video card. For the first time since 2003, I can actually do PC gaming, and right now I really want to get into some.
The two games I want to play are World of Warcraft or Left 4 Dead. I have to buy a new copy of WoW, because I forgot that I sold my copy to my old roommate, but there are some bonuses I can get from a new copy, if I use Chris' friend code to unlock some neat shit. However, even though you can buy and upgrade to Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King online, you can't do the same with the basic game, so I have to wait until tomorrow when a store besides Walmart is open. As for Left 4 Dead, it looks like a great multiplayer game, but I only want to play with George or Chris, and neither are online, and I don't feel like calling George or banging on Chris' door.
I also want Team Fortress 2, even though I have it for 360. The PC community is a ton more robust. But I don't want to buy that since it won't meet my needs of seeing some sweet shit run on my new computer...
