Burundanga: The Zombie Drug

Sep 27, 2007 14:38

Just finished watching a 9-part documentary on VBS.TV about the drug Burundanga, also known as "Colombian Devil's Breath" or "The Zombie Drug." It was described in the first installment as being like the worst Roofie in the world times 100.
Used primarily by various criminal elements within the Colombian underworld (prostitutes, petty thieves, etc.), it strips people of their will, making them completely open to any suggestion, from "Empty your savings account" to "Take me back to your apartment." The victims are willing participants in the crimes being committed against them, and when they come around they have no recollection of what transpired. Inquiring after the drug on the streets of Bogota automatically raises suspicions that you might be up to no good.
It was easily one of the most fascinating - and horrifying - things I have ever watched. See for yourself.

Made me wanna watch Hofmann's Potion, the National Film Board of Canada's recent documentary about LSD inventor Albert Hofmann.

Also reminded me of why I've spent my whole life simultaneously fascinated and freaked out by drugs.
