Out Ch'Yonda ROBBED!

Aug 30, 2007 12:30

Dear Friends and supporters of Out ch'Yonda,

It is with a heavy heart that we must finally declare that Out ch'Yonda was robbed this past weekend during the performance of "For colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf," and two days later in the afternoon.

Altogether, we lost about $750 - about half our rent;P - our cell phone, a digital video camera, two wallets, Virginia's eyeglasses, her digital recorder and flash drive, driver's licenses, credit cards, debit cards, trust, etc. Whoever our culprit was, s/he knew where to find just about everything and there is evidence that someone hid in the building and ran out just as we returned from a 10 minute errand around the corner on Tues.

We have about three weeks to replace this money so that our rent can be paid on time.

Please consider joining together with us during this material loss with a one time donation of any size (they can be tax deductible if that is a help to you), a regular membership, or regular attendance at our upcoming events as we attempt to move forward. We are also holding a 24-hour round the clock occupation of Out ch'Yonda for the next 7 days as part of a protection ritual.
Please call and let us know if you would like to participate and slumber overnight, work during the day, be security during events, etc. (243-4325). No firearms, hostility or fear required.

It goes without saying that we have to tighten up our security protocols and that we will ne longer keep large sums of cash in the building for too long -- apparently even when there are people there!!!!

We've had five good years without theft and must count our blessings. Furthermore, we count on our community to sustain us through this troubled time. People are more desperate than ever. We must "trust in Allah, but tie up [our] camel."
