My husband has one brother and two sisters. One of his sisters did not attend our recent wedding, nor did she contact us in any way to let us know if she and her family were coming or not. We had to keep following up with her and in the end she told us her husband's company was downsizing and they didn't know how secure his job was, so they couldn't afford to drive 4 hours to go to our wedding.
She also never sent a card, nor a word of congratulations.
Two weeks after our wedding, my husband gets an email from this sister. Its an article she wrote that she is trying to get published in a paper. It's about how birth control and abortion and gay or other types of marriages are contrary to God. Blah blah blah...lots of bashing of certain lifestyles in the name of religion...blah blah blah.
Now it all makes sense. She never came to our wedding because we had a civil ceremony, not a religious one. We lived in "sin" before we got married. We practice birth control and have openly said we do not want to have children.
She does not approve. Oh well. She won't be getting a thank-you card with a photo either, because there's nothing to thank her for! The saddest thing about this is that her 3 daughters missed the chance to wear fairy wings at our wedding. But from what I understand, this sister bans certain things from the household, so fairy wings might be on the list...
