Part 1

"Back to the drug thing...."

Truly groaned and dropped her head on the table. Don laughed at her misery and reached out to touch her arm.

"It’s an easy one. How long were you in rehab before Hawkes let you go?"

"3 weeks," said Truly, lifting her head off the table and giving him an unamused look. "Thanks for calling my dad by the way."

"New rule. You can’t be snide."

"You just take the fun outta everything don’t you?"

"I do enjoy causing this misery for you," Truly laughed at him, her eyes sparkling a bit.

"Seriously, though? Why didn’t you just take me?"

"Stella’s been hounding me on that for weeks now," said Don, his smirk fading a bit. "I still don’t know."

"Is she still mad that we slept together?"

"Not anymore, but now she will be."

"I can imagine what it’ll be like for you a work," Don’s grin returned and he tightened his grip on her arm. Truly looked down at his hand on her arm and Don cleared his throat, quickly pulling his hand back.

"Um...w-why do you and Aiden get along? Why?"

"Would you rather two very manipulative and creative women didn’t get along?"

"You and Lindsay don’t get along."

"Lindsay’s a bitch and broke up Danny and Maka."

"She didn’t break them up-"

"Don’t vouch for her. Kaile and Danny were good together and you’re just as pissed off at Lindsay as I am."

"So how’d you go so long detoxing on your own?"

"Way to change the subject," muttered Truly darkly. She ran her hand through her hair and sighed. "Carla. She stopped selling after the raid and practically healed me."

"7 questions left. You changed after the hostage thing. What the hell happened in there?"

"You shot someone for me," said Truly with a shrug and looking down at the table. "I wanted you to be my hero for once."

Don’s look softened and he reached out, touching her hand. Truly looked up at him and gave him a small smile, which he returned.

"What’s with the Disney channel?"

"Kim Possible? Frankie watched it."

"And all is explained."

"You can’t snark either," said Truly seriously. "You wanted an answer and I gave you Frankie, that should explain everything."

"Why do we do this?"

"In general? Because we can. And we let our self’s, it’s fun."

"It’s not fun. I always seem to end up getting hurt."

"See, that’s another reason why Deven doesn’t like you. You keep coming back to me when you know how much I’ll hurt you."

"Is Deven gonna kill me?"

"Oh yeah. You’ll be dead if Stella doesn’t get to you first," said Truly with a smirk. She paused and thought for a moment. "And Aiden and Gabe and Kaile, Joanie, Mac, my father, your parents-"

"Alright I get the picture. I’m a dead man."

"Wish I could help."

"You can’t. I came onto you."

"That is true."

"Why did you decide to tell me about the baby this time and not get an abortion and keep it to yourself?"

"Well, one, Carla knew last time. And two...I’m not on drugs so my thought process isn’t as screwed up?"

"....Yeah I’ll take that."

"You will?"

"Mmmhmm," said Don. He thought for a second, watching Truly shift uncomfortably in her seat. He smirked to himself and straightened up suddenly. "Hawkes told you about my date, correct?"

"Yup," said Truly, her eyes flashing in jealously for a moment.

"Good, means he wasn’t lying when he said you were jealous."

"...That doesn’t count as a question!"

"Yeah it does."

"No, it doesn’t-"

"So why don’t you and Monroe get along? Uh, beside the obvious she broke Danny and Maka up bit."

"She missed the country."

"Is that why you and Gabe don’t get along?"

"He doesn’t miss the country, he just hates me."

"Alright, last question."

"Yup."

"Here we go...."

"Oh, c’mon, Don, you’re killin’ me with the suspense."

"Fine, fine....gimme a sec."

"Ugh!"

"You....wait a second, you’re mom!"

"What about her?"

"You said she was dead. Explain, now."

"That’s not in the form of a question."

"Bite me, Truly. You know what I’m talkin’ ‘bout."

"Alright, you’re lucky it’s your day off."

"Your dad says your mom’s alive."

"Have you ever heard me say she was dead?"

"Not directly. You hinted."

"I hate her. Not that this has anything to do with....she’s schizophrenic."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah. She, um...She wasn’t really diagnosed until I was in middle school, but by then she had fucked me up pretty bad. You know my thing with cars?"

"...I hit you with a car, babe. ‘Member?"

"Yeah. When...when I was in grade school my mom hit me with her car. Gave me a concussion and a broken leg. I was in the hospital for like a week."

"Oh my god. That’s what those scares are from?"

"She’s one of those....people who say the meanest crap in the nicest way," said Truly, wiping tears out of her eyes. "She really screwed me up."

"So she’s alive?" asked Don softly.

"I haven’t seen her in years, but yeah. She’s still kickin’."

"I’m sorry."

"You’re sorry she’s alive?"

"I’m sorry she haunts you like this. You could have told me that. Kinda makes everything more clear really."

"Well, when’s the best time to say something like that? ‘Oh, hey! How was your day? Good? Oh, I forgot to tell you, when I was ten my mom hit me with her car and suffers from schizophrenia."

"No the greatest conversation starter."

"No, no it isn’t."

"Anyone else know?"

"Actually, you’re it."

"Really?" Truly nodded. "That kinda makes me feel special."

"Don’t let it go to your head. I’m full of secrets."

"And unfortunately I only have twenty questions," said Don. "This was fun."

"Define, fun?"

"We talked. We talked nicely. Stella would be proud."
