I read Neil Gaiman's American Gods today and was surprised to really like it, since I found Neverwhere to be underwhelming. I mean, I'm fascinated by subway systems and tunnels, yet Neverwhere never once made me feel like I was actually there. Or anywhere, for that matter. It was a big disappointment since I loved The Sandman comic series.
Though Gaiman still doesn't describe things enough in American Gods. He tells you things and mostly lets you imagine the details on your own. Maybe he still needs an artist to help him out, as in his Sandman days.
Interesting ideas in American Gods. Gave me the inspiration to do a smidge more on "Nevermore" and at the very least provided the names of Odin's wolves.
