All That Jazz

Well, my luck holds true to form. I'm going to be in town for the Jazz Fest, so just about every hotel's sold out or exorbitantly expensive. I don't care much for jazz, but since I'll be around anyway, maybe it'll change my mind. Anyway, after calling ten hotels that are among the less expensive ones in the French Quarter, the only two listings I got that were under $200 a night for the days I wanted were the Olivier House Hotel, where I stayed last time, and the Days Inn on Canal Street. Despite the exotic, wonderfully seedy glamor of the Olivier, I went with the Days Inn. I'll miss it, but I'm staying six days, and the Days Inn will save me $100 over them a night for weeknights and $50 for weekend nights. At this point, I'll trade atmosphere for having a few hundred dollars more to spend. And the Olivier's mattress was so hard that I didn't sleep much, which helped lead to the auditory hallucinations I had by the end of the trip. If you want an account of my last New Orleans trip in 1999, go here.

I'll have to line up my itinerary another time, because ten phone calls have left me needing a break.

I so wish I could have gone in March, but my boss started Hell Month earlier this year and asked me not to. I followed his wishes. Of course, Hell Month is running long (as usual) and will still be going when I take my trip at the end of April. This gained us what?

Okay, I'll stop bitching for a while. I am really excited about this trip... and if I'm taking the po' route on this trip it's only because I am po' and ended up paying $500+ in taxes this month. I keep wondering how I could possibly make enough money to owe that much!

Okay, now the bitch fest ends.

Anybody willing to sponsor a writer? I really don't eat all that much, and I try to be entertaining. If cared for well enough, I even stop bitching. Honest.
