Because It Wouldn't Be Windows If It Didn't Suck

Nov 28, 2018 01:26

I just found out today that my Address Book .wab file from my old broken computer won't be usable in Windows 10. It just won't. Windows 10 doesn't have anything equivalent to Address Book program-wise, and what it does have instead manages to suck and be intrusive. I had years of information on fen friends in that Address Book: physical addresses, e-mail addresses, in some cases birthdays, phone numbers, and years of notes on what cards I sent them what year. Lost. I can hardly hook up my non-starting old Windows XP computer to a printer to print my contacts out either. I never transferred all this information to my iPhone Contacts because I already had it in my Address Book.

I spent about an hour with three different Microsoft agents in chat to no avail. Also, People in Mail won't connect to my iCloud contacts either because it keeps saying the password provided is wrong, which it isn't. I was eventually told that Outlook does a lot more and is a superior program to Mail... but also that the substantial fee I paid for Office doesn't include Outlook and it would cost an additional $29 to let me download it, at which point I gave the agent a polite euphemism of "Go fuck yourselves."

It wouldn't be Microsoft Windows if they didn't break something that hadn't been broken. Address Book had been very useful. People is a total failure and also wants way too much access to your e-mail accounts' information. (I don't have physical addresses in my Yahoo and AOL contacts because they are e-mail services!)

So, guys, I can't guarantee I'll be able to send Christmas cards this year, but if you'd like to send me your addresses in case I can this year or in the future, please e-mail me at Viridian5 at AOL.com.
