Gag Me

The showrunner of the new Heathers TV series obviously didn't watch the same movie I did: "Heathers remake showrunner explains that bold bully makeover." Veronica is a white blonde girl, while the Heathers are "a 'body positive' plus-sized leader (Melanie Field), a genderqueer (Brendan Scannell), and an African American (Jasmine Mathews)." But showrunner Jason Micallef has reasons! That I don't accept. The Heathers aren't villains, they're aspirational! Really? The original Heathers sucked as human beings and hurt a lot of people, even if they did have some hidden miseries and insecurities under their glossy, beautiful, rich-girl, bully veneers. Their response to someone they mercilessly bullied trying to kill herself was to laugh at how the pathetic fat pig couldn't even succeed at suicide (their sentiments, not mine).

Did he miss how the movie had the audience sympathizing with J.D. (even if we thought he went too far) until the guy went completely overboard, insane, and murderous and turned on Veronica as well?

The movie was subversive in making its tormentors girls? Has the showrunner ever gone to school?

Making the new Heathers this while making Veronica a blonde white girl just makes me side-eye it all the more.

I'm not giving this show a try unless multiple people tell me it's genius.
