Monstress Volume 1, The Grand Tour, and monsters

Monstress Volume 1: Awakening by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda has interesting worldbuilding, an intriguing dark fantasy story, beautiful art featuring a world that looks art deco- and steampunk-inflected, and a group of characters that's about 97% female. I'd really like to see where this series goes next.

I can't stream and don't belong to Amazon Prime, thus I can't watch my three favorite (former) Top Gear hosts in their new The Grand Tour, so I went on a nostalgia kick run of Top Gear on TV Tropes. Some of the writing at Tropes on it was really good, such as this snip from the Funny page: "By the middle [of the Vietnam episode] as three middle aged English men ride motorcycles through Vietnam in brightly colored suits being comical at every end you'll start to wonder when this episode of Top Gear became a very good Wes Anderson movie."

I've been really quiet lately due to the results of the presidential election leaving me depressed and very anxious. I'm a disabled woman on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and no matter what Trump said during his campaign about him leaving Social Security and Medicare alone, he's surrounding himself with people panting to privatize, decrease them, and make them more expensive for the recipients. As for Medicaid, I know what to expect from a Republican majority government with a man like Trump at the head. That's aside from his racism, ableism, xenophobia, misogyny, ego, ignorance, vindictiveness, bullying, volatility, admiration for fascist dictators....

I haven't been able to write.

fantasy, top gear, comic books, books, tv
