Isolation

When I was writing my original novels back when, I wrote in monk-like solitude, with no one to talk to about it. When I found online fandom, I suddenly had people to talk to, dish with, squee with, get and develop inspiration from, and talk through edits on my work, and I loved it. My fic output was massive. These days I'm back to monk-like solitude, and it's not from my wanting it.

I remember--and miss--the nights when I had eight IM conversations going at once. That slowed down a lot in recent years, but these days it's usually zero.
