Because of Course I Did

Feeling restless and the night feeling like comfortable autumn (and I was in a lot of head pain and had some GI issues Monday through Wednesday and barely got out of bed those days), I decided to go for a neighborhood walk around 2 a.m. I had a small, slow fall when I turned my left ankle on uneven pavement but I only had a little swelling and I'm an old hand at wracked ankles at this point so I kept going.

Maybe that fall weakened the ankle because I had a much, much worse fall 20 minutes later. The lighting was good enough and the surface fairly even so I have no idea what happened, but my left ankle is the size of a tangerine and difficult to flex, the worst I've hurt it in years, and I badly scraped both palms, my right knee, and my left elbow. The right knee is very bruised and swollen too. I washed up the palms and knee at a nearby park drinking fountain, under an orange park light, then limped the five blocks home, which I know didn't help but what else could I do, feeling my ankle swelling in my shoe the whole way.

I'm not doing the ER unless the ankle is much worse tomorrow because arrrrgh and it's so late at night. I took an NSAID, put some ice on it and the knee, then put a compression ankle brace on that I already had from past ankle injuries, and I'll be sleeping with it elevated. I'll rest it for a few days. You know, RICE. Fortunately I did my laundry Thursday and grocery shopping yesterday.

I'd say I don't believe it, but it's me so I do.

left ankle of the damned
